Cory Monteith Found Dead in Hotel Room

Cory Monteith, best known for his role as heartthrob Finn Hudson on the FOX musical series Glee, was found dead in his hotel room in Vancouver, Canada on Saturday (July 13). He was 31.

The staff at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel found Monteith unconscious in his room around noon after he had missed his checkout time. Police still do not know the cause of death, but ruled out foul play. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

Monteith had been fighting drug addiction, and had voluntarily checked himself into rehab this past Spring. He had been open in interviews about his struggle with drug use, which started at 13. He first entered rehab at 19 following an intervention by his family. Despite his demons, his co-stars and production crew only had good words for the actor.

"We are deeply saddened by this tragic news," read an official statement from Glee's producers and FOX.
"Cory was an exceptional talent and an even more exceptional person. He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones."

Monteith had been dating his Glee co-star Lea Michele at the time of his death. A rep for the actress, who had stood by Monteith during his recent rehab stint, released a brief statement on her behalf asking "that everyone kindly respect Lea's privacy during this devastating time."
