The business mogul, Jimoh Ibrahim arrested over N6.8 billion Tax Fraud.

The Special Enforcement Unit of Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has arrested shady businessman, Jimoh Ibrahim over a tax fraud to the tune of N6.8bn.

Mr. Ibrahim was picked up today and is currently under detention at the offices of the agency.

According to undisclosed source, "We are investigating a case where Chief Ibrahim, defrauded the federal government to this huge sum. He is in our custody, we intend to take a statement from the suspect under caution", he added.

According to the story, Mr. Ibrahim has evaded the agents of the unit severally before he was eventually caught up with and arrested in his hotel room at NICON Luxury Hotel this afternoon in Abuja.

The business mogul came into limelight and national prominence under former President Olusegun Obasanjo, where he was described as an insurance magnate after a questionable sale of the state owned NICON insurance company.

He later became a player in media industry through controversial sale of Newswatch and in the aviation industry. He became the proprietor of Air Nigeria but got into series of issues due to a disclosure from one of the top level employee about the airline's extensive violation of maintenance standards and financial frauds. This led to eventual close down of his airline couple with inability to meet financial obligations to staff, lessors, maintenance engineers and aircraft parts suppliers.

Despite several controversies around Chief Ibrahim, he is known to possess extensive political connection with former president Obasanjo as well as top members of the Goodluck Jonathan regime.
