The Nigerian National Identity Card Registration

The registration of eligible Nigerians for the national identity cards was flagged off by the President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and every legal resident and citizen from 16 years and above are eligible and expected to register.

The deadline approved by the Presidency for completion of this process is December 2014. The national identity card is expected to be the sole identification and take care of multiple identity registration demanded by various government bodies.

The registration process involves 3 key steps:

1. Visit NIMC site and create your enrollment profile on the pre-registration portal.

2. Sign into the portal and fill in your biodata.

3. Print out the pre-registration slip and use it to complete the process at a NIMC enrollment center.

Enrollment Centers:

There are Registration Centers in all the 36 NIMC State offices in the capital of each State and FCT and with time, there will also be centers in all the 774 Local Government offices nationwide. 

There are also plans to establish additional registration centers and mobile registration centers in strategic locations for easy access to enrollment.

Proof of Identity:

Proof of Identity document must contain name and photo of the resident. Any of the following POI documents are supported.

1. Passport
2. Voter ID
3. Driving License
4. Government Photo ID Cards
5. Photo ID issued by Recognised Educational Institution
6. Photo Bank ATM Card
7. Photo Credit Card
8. Photo Credit Card
9. Pensioner Photo Card

Proof of Address (POA) documents:

Proof of Address documents must contain name ann address of the resident. Any of the following POA documents are supported.

1. Passport
2. Bank Statement/Passbook
3. Post Office Account Statement/Passbook
4. Voter ID
5. Driving License
6. Government Photo ID Cards
7. Electricity Bill (not older than 3 months)
8. Water Bill (not older than 3 months)
9. Telephone Landline Bill (not older than 3 months)
10. Property Tax Receipt (not older than 3 months)

12. Insurance Policy
13. Signed letter having photo issued by Recognized Educational Institution

Prof of DoB document must contain Name and DoB of the resident. Any of the following documents are supported.
